New National Member Group in fib

fib is pleased to welcome Lebanon as a new National Member Group in fib, with the secretariat held by the Lebanese Concrete Society. This latest addition brings fib‘s national members to a total of 42.

The National Member Groups (NMG), and the General Assembly of delegates who represent them, play an essential role in the functioning and governance of fib. NMGs also serve as a contact point for fib in their respective countries, so that their local community of engineers can have regular access to information about the association’s publications and events, as well as a channel for national views to be fed back to fib for discussion and further development.

For further information, visit the fib website: http://www.fib-international.org or contact the secrtariat at fib@epfl.ch.

Structural Concrete – June 2013

The June 2013 issue of the Structural Concrete Journal is now available to fib members via the Wiley Online Library: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/suco.v14.2/issuetoc.

This issue continues the “Focus: fib Model Code for Concrete Structures 2010″ series, with articles on sound engineering practices through conceptual design according to MC2010 and design for SLS according to MC2010. Other articles deal with comprehensive basic tensile and bending creep behaviours, crack healing of cemetitious materials, a mix design methodology for high-performance geopolymer mortars, design for punching of prestressed concrete slabs, and the impact of hard projectiles on concrete targets.

fib-news, June 2013

The June 2013 issue of fib-news reports on the recent fib symposium in Tel Aviv and the fib Medal of Merit, Honorary Membership and Achievement Award for Young Engineers that were awarded there; an fibUK technical meeting on the added value of fib resources to structural projects; and the first international ACCTA conference (“Advances in Cement and Concrete Technology in Africa”) that took place in South Africa earlier this year. A report from the Norwegian National Member Group in fib launches a new occasional series on the organization and activities of these groups.
