fib Model Code 2020
At its recent meeting in Sydney in August 2015, the fib Presidium agreed to establish a core group of members to prepare a detailed roadmap for the next generation of the fib’s Model Code for Concrete Structures 2010 (MC2010), currently the most advanced structural concrete code available. The new initiative, to be entitled Model Code 2020, will be submitted to the fib’s Technical Council for approval and will be carried out under the direction of a new special activity group, which will be comprised of members from all of the fib’s existing commissions. This new edition will update the material in the MC2010 and will add data on existing structures.
2016 fib Symposium Cape Town Abstract Deadline Approaching
The abstract deadline for the fib’s 2016 Symposium in Cape Town is 31 December 2015. Approximately 265 abstracts from 43 countries have already been submitted for the symposium, which will be held from 21-23 November 2016. The conference topics broadly encompass concrete materials technology, modelling and testing of concrete properties, structural design of concrete structures, durabililty and service life, sustainability aspects, and construction systems. Further details on the scope and aims of the conference, deadlines and abstract submission requirements can be found on the event website.
Memorandum of cooperation between the fib and RILEM
The fib and RILEM, the Réunion internationale des laboratories et experts des matériaux, systèmes de construction et ouvrages, recently signed a memorandum of cooperation. The main goal of the cooperation is the coordination of technical activities in the field of structural concrete, which will include having members of each organization participate in committee activities of the other. In addition, members of both organizations will in the future benefit directly by being able to purchase the other organization’s publications at a discounted price.
Memorandum of cooperation between the fib and ACI
On 8 November 2015, fib President Harald S. Müller signed a memorandum of cooperation with ACI President Sharon Wood, ACI Past President William E. Rushing and ACI Executive President Ronald G. Burg. ACI and the fib have cooperated on projects for many years, including holding a joint session on Life Cycle Cost and Service Life Design at the 2015 ACI Fall Convention in Denver. The signing of this memorandum of cooperation seals both associations’ commitment to developing and disseminating knowledge about concrete globally.
FRP Training Course: Reinforcing and strengthening of structures with FRP reinforcement
The second edition of the FRP Training Course is once again being organised by Ghent University, fib Task Group 5.1, endure (European Network for Durable Reinforcement and Rehabilitation Solutions) and Action TU1207. The course will take place at Ghent University from 25-29 January 2016. Following the successful 2015 edition of this course, the 2016 edition will provide a comprehensive overview of the design and application of FRP reinforcement in new construction and rehabilitation and will be taught by international experts in the field. This training course is intended for all industry and research professionals involved in FRP reinforcement for reinforcing concrete structures or for strengthening existing structures.
